Giving it Back

“Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” Genesis 2-22:1 NLT

In Genesis 22, God asks Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Isaac was not only Abraham’s own flesh and blood, but he was also Abraham and Sarah’s promised child. Despite knowing all this, Abraham does not hesitate to obey God. Throughout the journey, Isaac asks Abraham where the sacrifice is. Abraham reassured him that God will provide. This is a strong representation of how to strengthen our faith in God. Despite knowing Isaac as the promise from God, Abraham was still willing to give him back to the Lord. Despite hearing Isaac’s questions (Genesis 22:7), he was still determined to give him back to God. Despite everything that can cross your mind when God asks you to give back a dream, blessing, or promise to Him, we have to have faith that placing it back in His hands will always be better than if we tried to hold onto it

What to Pray:
God, teach us to be like Abraham. Teach us to be quick to obey and ready to give everything back to you especially when we are unsure what will happen. God, strengthen our faith and prepare our hearts for times when you will ask us to place dreams, blessings, and promises back into your hands. Teach us that everything in your hands is better than anything that’s not from you. We love you, God. Amen.

The Prayer of Jabez:
Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh [if] that you would bless me [indeed] and enlarge [Expand] my territory, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm [evil] so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked. 1 Chronicles 4:10 KJV, NIV, MSG
