Be Still
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10 ESV
Have you ever wondered why God directed us to be still? In Hebrew, be still is pronounced raphah and means to sink, relax, let go or to withdraw. With that understanding, the verse reads, “Relax, and know that I am God.” Relaxing and knowing is not something that just occurs. Relaxing and knowing takes intentionality in trusting that God is who He says He is and can do what He said He would do.
Another meaning for raphah in a different context is healed. Jehovah Rapha is a name God is given in different parts of the Bible and it means, The God who heals. In our letting go and surrender we give God the space to take over and heal whatever situation we may be facing. Get in His presence, let go, trust God, and have faith in His word. He has the ability to heal whatever it is you may be facing. There is nothing impossible for Him.
What to Pray:
Father, teach me to be still. Teach me to draw near. I desire to know you in such a new way that no matter what situation I may be facing, I immediately surrender to you. I love you, Father. I invite you to come and do what only you can do. I let go of control so that you may be exalted in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
The Prayer of Jabez:
Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh [if] that you would bless me [indeed] and enlarge [Expand] my territory, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm [evil] so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked. 1 Chronicles 4:10 KJV, NIV, MSG
