Walking on Water
But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” Matthew 14:27-29
In this story, Peter shows us what it looks like to let our faith lead us to the supernatural. He sees Jesus, hears that it’s Him on the water, and then responds, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you…”. Men don’t walk on water, it’s beyond our ability (supernatural). But Peter could do it because he partnered his faith with the supernatural and let his faith begin to expand territory. Before his physical body set foot on the supernatural, his faith went first in his response. Peter’s goal was never just to walk on the water. The only thing he cared about was being where Jesus was, which enabled him to do the supernatural. Peter decided that if he had to do something impossible and supernatural, that was fine as long as he got to Jesus. His only desire was to be with Him. Our desire must be to be with Jesus, even if that requires the supernatural. Peter wanted to be with him, no matter how difficult it looked to get there. Peter knew that if Jesus was on the water, he could be on the water too because Jesus also wanted to be with him. Make a decision today that even if you have to do something that looks difficult or even impossible, that’s okay, as long as it leads you to Him.
What to Pray:
God, I partner my faith with you. I repent for desiring things more than I desire to simply be where you are. I acknowledge that it’s not about the supernatural alone, but it’s about having the faith that I can do impossible things to get to where you are. Lead me to you, Lord. Call out to me just like you did with Peter and ask me to come to you. Open my eyes to see you and my ears to hear you. Speak Lord, your servant is listening. I only want to expand territory to the places you are calling me to. Thank you for wanting to be with me and allowing me to do the impossible so that I can get to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Prayer of Jabez:
Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh [if] that you would bless me [indeed] and enlarge [Expand] my territory, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm [evil] so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked. 1 Chronicles 4:10 KJV, NIV, MSG
