Faith by Hearing

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 ESV

There is a clear difference between listening and hearing. Hearing is active. In Mark 4, Jesus tells the parable of the sower and then explains the meaning. In verse 20 He says, But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold”.  Faith comes by hearing the word and accepting it to be true. Faith is not passive, we have to choose whether we believe God’s word or not. As you read scripture today, actively engage with it. Make a decision in your heart to believe what you read. Believe His promises, believe His character, believe in the stories of all those who came before us. Believe Him, He is true and faithful.

What to Pray:
Father, give me ears to hear. Teach me to accept all that you are saying in your Word and in our daily personal encounters together. Make my ears good soil. I choose to believe your word and your promises, I believe you are good. Expose any unbelief that I may have in my heart so that I may trust you more. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Prayer of Jabez:
Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh [if] that you would bless me [indeed] and enlarge [Expand] my territory, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm [evil] so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked. 1 Chronicles 4:10 KJV, NIV, MSG
