Creation

Creation is feeling His presence, hearing His voice, or being moved to worship by being in His creation.

What is creation?

When you connect with God through creation you are joining in with all of nature in glorifying Him. In every gust of wind, flower in bloom, sunrise, sunset and bird building a nest, you have eyes to see the goodness of what God exhaled. There is an invitation to encounter God outside. He is saying, “Come away with Me” (Song of Solomon 2:10).

Become aware of the beckoning from God to pause and respond to invitations of what He is wanting to show you outside. He is inviting you into an encounter with the Creator of all things.

As you encounter God through creation be intentional about asking Him to show you Himself and teach you His ways through the creation that is around you. "Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy." Psalms 96: 11-12

How to Connect with God through Creation:

  • Spending time outdoors isn't always as accessible as your couch is; intentionally plan time for you to go into creation to encounter God. Practically that may look like putting it on your calendar, or planning a visit to a local park or lake.

  • Whether its a rocking chair on your patio, a garden, or a trail, create a space you can easily go to for your encounter time. If weather doesn't permit, create a space that is by a window where you can see outside.

  • Like Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden, go for a walk and talk with Him. As you walk, pray in the Spirit and invite His Presence into your environment.

  • Invite God into all of your outdoor activities. Anytime you are doing a hobby outside like fishing or gardening, intentionally invite Him into that. A practical way to do that is to just ask Him what is on His mind as you do your hobby.

  • Spend time outside looking at all of the incredible things God created, whether it's trees, mountains, plants, or animals during the day, or the stars at night. Cultivate awe towards God in your heart as an act of worship.

”The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” -Psalms 19:1

Grow in how you connect with God

Learning how we connect with God shows us how we can enter into His presence daily. While you may have a best way to connect with Him, you can connect with God in all the ways. Use this guide below to help you grow in connecting with God through Creation by pairing it with your favorite way.

  • Creation + Adoration

All of creation was created to glorify the Lord, when you step outside and pour out your adoration to Him you are joining in on worship that never ceases. As the trees clap their hands and the birds sing, join in and worship the Lord in awe and wonder. Psalms 66:4 says, "All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.”

  • Creation + Fasting

As you encounter God through fasting, take time to go out into creation and spend time with Him. If you are unable to do physical activities simply sit on a park bench or go for a light walk.

  • Creation + Meditation

When you’re outside find a shady spot and begin to meditate on His word. Meditate on Scriptures like the book of Psalms that often speak on creation.

  • Creation + Movement

As you encounter God through movement, visit places that are surrounded by creation. Try hiking or going on a bicycle ride through your local park. Lean into not only encountering Him through your movement, but the creation around you.

  • Creation + Expression

Take your creative expression outdoors! Whether it’s painting or dancing, you can encounter God through expression in Creation. Be mindful that as you create, you are surrounded by His creation.

  • Creation + Conversation

In Genesis, it says that God walked in the Garden in the cool of the day. Just like He did with Adam and Eve in the garden, God wants to walk and talk with you in the cool of the day. Spend time outdoors talking with Him, asking what’s on His mind like you would on a walk with a friend.

  • Creation + Solitude

Spend time alone in creation, this could look like visiting a park, going on a solo hike or camping trip, or sitting by your local lake. Take time to be alone in the stillness of creation and hear His voice. Jesus often retreated to be in solitude while in creation.

  • Creation + Learning

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus is seen teaching His disciples through the creation around them. In your encounter time ask Jesus to teach you His ways through what is around you.

  • Creation + Reformation

In your daily encounters, allow the Scripture you are reading to reform you. Take time to sit and slow down when you are reading your Bible. Become the very words you are reading in Scripture as you seek God’s heart for reformation and heavenly justice in the world around you. Pray Scripture over the injustices that you are seeing around you. Meditate on Isaiah 61.

  • Creation + Compassion

Look into outreach and evangelism opportunities that will allow you to encounter God through compassion while being in creation.

  • Creation + Remembrance

Spend time in creation remembering the goodness of the Lord. Jesus says to look at the birds and how they don’t have to worry because the Father feeds them, or how the flowers grow without toiling. Creation speaks of the faithfulness of God!
